God’s Country

Autumn Landscape of Door County, Wisconsin

I was given the book years ago. I think it was a yard sale find. The book currently sits on my shelf, where I will  pull it out and soak in the vibrant landscapes of “God‘s Country”.  That is the title of the picture book.

The pictures are of the Blue Ridge mountains, Holmes County, Ohio, Door County, Wisconsin, The Ozarks, Mississippi, rural Idaho, the canyons of the southwest, and the panoramic views of the Pacific northwest. Each of these places has much to offer the eyes and each has vibrant colors and texture to appreciate.

God’s Country.

I’ve had opportunity to visit some of the most beautiful places in the United States…and those places I haven’t been to yet, well, I enjoy the pictures.

Every time I see the pictures, I am reminded. Reminded that these pictures are just images of the real thing. The pictures prove that the beauty exists.

A couple of evenings ago I was outside walking around the property. I came around the corner of the house and there it was, laid out before me. The sky infused with pinks and purples. The trees on the horizon were silhouetted by the last of the evening light.  Breath taking, really.

The thought I had at that moment, “If God creates so much beauty here and now……what must Heaven be like?”  If He does this for me now, allows me to soak in the beauty of His creations, gives  me this picture…….. this place that I live now is gorgeous, no doubt about it. Nature cries out at the glory of its Creator….but, oh  how I can’t wait to see Heaven.

What I have now is just a dull image of what is to come.

Virtual Trip

M-I-S-S-I-S-S-I-P-P-I

Isn’t it fun to spell?

Bags packed? Ready to go see the state with me? Okay, then…let’s hit the road!

I’m thinking that the gulf coast sounds really great right about now. Too early for hurricanes…and before all the summer people head down to the beaches.

Aaahhhh….. can’t you feel the sand on your feet? The breeze blowing. Peaceful.

Maybe after a few days at the beach we can go to Clarksdale and listen to some blues. I hear it’s pretty good stuff.  We could wind up our vacation in Vicksburg, for those of us that love history, or at a tour of historic homes in Natchez.

The deep south.

I’m lovin’ it.

The Great American Travel Adventure

I think it’s the sunshine that does it to me. The longer days, the warmer nights. I often go outside and look up at the endless puffy clouds…the vast expanse of sky…and….

I want nothing more than a full tank of gas and a map.

This country I live in, is beautiful and interesting and exciting and inviting….and I want to see it all. I want to meet the people, hear the stories, make the memories.

It happens to me every year at this time.

I pull all my travel books off the shelf. I peruse various scenic highways and byways. I have a longing to see that which will stay in my soul, long after the pictures fade.

So, I was thinking…. Wouldn’t it be fun to travel? You could come along with me. We could “virtual travel” together. Each week, I will explore  a different state and you’ll be along for the ride. (even though today is Wednesday…I’m thinking that Tuesday would be a better travel day)

Put on something comfortable, turn the radio up loud, and lets hit the road!

Hold on, just a sec. I’ll be right back. I’m going to close my eyes and randomly pick a state on my U.S.A wall map.

Here goes……and the first stop will be Mississippi!

Tune in Tuesday, for our first destination. Related articles
