Life Change

Stained glass at St John the Baptist's Anglica...

Why is it that when I want to have good habits, healthy habits, interesting habits…it is so hard? Sigh. Oh, the bad habits, I’ve got that covered. They are not a problem, I know those habits, oh so well. I wish that was not the case. Sigh, again.

I want to eat better, exercise more…be healthy. I want to read more and travel more. I want to try new things and meet new people. I overwhelm myself with all that I WANT.  Now, I’m not saying wanting these things is all bad. It’s not. I think God wants for me to have an exceptional life and to live abundantly…but, what does that really mean? For, me? For, you? On a daily basis, where habits are formed?

What, out of my myriad list of things that I’d like to change from once in a while, hit or miss attempts, into habits, do I choose? What is the habit that is the most important? The one habit that, if I’d stick with it, would literally change my life?

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10 ESV

And I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6 ESV

Obviously, as a believer, Jesus has things planned for me. Good things. Things that will make me more like Him, and after all, isn’t that the goal? To be more like Him, every day?

To know Jesus, more.

How do I do that? In practical ways? In meaningful ways? In real ways?

1. Communicate- Philippians 4:6-7 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

2. Celebrate- Colossians 2:6-7  Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude.

3. Emulate-  Philippians 2:5  In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus

Just Give Me Jesus

Today at A Holy Experience we are writing about: The Practice of New Habits

************************************************

Jesus

This is the time of the year when I, like so many others, think about habits. Resolutions. Disciplines. What will my priorities be for 2013? It can all seem so overwhelming. By nature, I tend to be an organized person. I make lists and I try to accomplish all the things that are on those lists, but to do lists are easier to complete than habits, or more so, change.

Change. I’m not sure how I feel about that word. It is uncomfortable, it makes me worry.  What if I make a mess of things? Worse yet, what if I fail?

So, with those thoughts in mind, I set out to see what God says about habits.

I can do all things through him who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13 ESV My strength comes not from me. I know myself all too well. I give up, become frustrated, throw in the towel. My strength in life comes from the One who never tires, who is a wonderful encourager and knows my faults yet still loves me.

But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. Psalm 1:2 ESV —There are times when I feel guilty because I don’t spend enough time meditating on God’s word. I need to not only read more, but truly think about what I read, after all this Word is God’s letter to me.

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. Galations 6:9 ESV– Don’t give up doing the right thing. Not the easiest thing…not the most available thing…but, the right thing. How do I know what is right and good? Go back to God’s word (previous verse). What would please Him? How can I do things with, and in, my life that would glorify Him and edify others?

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. 2 Peter 3:18 ESV–Grow in grace. Grace, that amazing grace. It is a wonderful thing. Each day, as a believer in Christ Jesus, I live in that grace. What a privilege to be able to grow in that grace and knowledge of Jesus. I forget that sometimes. It is easy to do, take it for granted, not fully comprehend. A grace filled life, does not mean perfection, nor does it mean a perfect life…but, it is a humbling experience.

I want to live my days in thankfulness to the One that knows no bounds.

My desire this year, is to grow closer to Him.

Just give me Jesus.

God Must Have A Sense Of Humor

Laughing Star

Laughing.

Giggling.

Snorting.

Can’t breathe.

Tears streaming down your face.

Therapeutic.

Humor, is something to be thankful for. Life is a lot more fun if we laugh. There is too much in life to be sad about, or scared, or down right terrified about…..but, sometimes one just has to laugh. Laugh out loud. Who cares if others think you’re nuts? Tell them that you are just fine and this is part of your therapy.

A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. Proverbs 17:22 ESV

Today I am thankful for laughter. My eucharisteo is thanksgiving to God for blessing me with funny things. Things that make me “smile out loud”. Surely, God must laugh at the craziness that He witnesses.

#371  A cat that stalks me. I’ve never known kitty love before this cat. She is calico love, wrapped up in fur.

#372 The same cat that is a huntress and deposits her rodent “gifts” in my master bath, where I will be sure to see them…and praise her for her great effort and talent.

#373 A dog that will not eat his nutritional bits and instead spews them around the kitchen floor. I find myself talking to the dog, knowing full well he doesn’t speak my language.

#374 Mismatched pajamas and fuzzy slippers…a regular fashionista, I am.

#375 I’m a mom to 3 teenagers and that brings some good laughs…all by itself.

#376 Random conversations in the family van. About what? Weird stuff, usually. Don’t even ask.

#377 Extremely windy days…I think I saw a cat just fly by the window.

#378 Dark stormy day, that allows me to light my cookie scented candles…..the smell without the baking:)

# 379 Good friends that go to home school conferences together and laugh their way through the aisles of curriculum.

#380 Life can be funny.
