Christmas Memories

Christmas Memories

Joy to the World,

sky so bright.

Church lit at night

childhood delight.

Christmas songs,

I’ve known so long.

Family together,

in all kinds of weather.

Jumping up and down,

as snow hits the ground.

Christmas trees,

of all shapes and sizes.

Beautiful packages,

filled full of surprises.

Mom’s special albums,

of Nat King Cole,

Bing, and Sinatra,

their songs don’t grow old.

TV specials,

my sis and I watched.

Charlie Brown, The Grinch

and don’t forget Rudolph!

All these are wonderful,

and dear to my heart.

Memories  mean so much

never to part.

But, above all else

what means the most…

is the proclamation of

the heavenly host.

“Unto you,

a Savior is born.”

With those words, everything changed

from that night on.

Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:11 NIV

Dance In The Snow

English: 4 paper snowflakes cut out as an example

“We are always getting ready to live, but never living”Ralph Waldo Emerson  (and evidently, Churchill quoted this also)

I spent some of my afternoon cutting out paper snowflakes. It is snowing (for real) outside. I’ve been listening to favorite Christmas music on Pandora. It’s been a quiet day and I have enjoyed it entirely. It’s been good.

Tonight the family will be going to a local “Country Christmas” where we will be witness to a live nativity. Hearing the Christmas story of the birth of the Messiah. The story that never grows old.

Memories.

Living.

Isn’t that what each of us is called to do?

To live each day and enjoy the moments. Right where we are at.

The moments are gone all too soon. How many times do I say, ” I’ll do that later” or make some other excuse?

Stop. Laugh. Enjoy.

Catch snowflakes on my tongue. Laugh until I cry. Take pictures of the kids at this very moment…because it won’t be back again. Capture the dog wearing antlers.

Dance in paper snowflakes. Lick the brownie batter. Sing at the top of my lungs. Wear the favorite sweater on a Thursday, what am I saving it for? Watch classic movies…and cartoons.

Tell family I love them. Send the card. Write the email.

Thank God.

To Behold The Indescribable

Shepherds moving their sheeps, between Khoy an...

Jesus came.

He……came.

The first to hear of his arrival were the shepherds.

The poor. The dirty. The ones who smelled of animals.

And yet, it was, they that were chosen.

Chosen, to behold the indescribable.

They were witness to the One that would change the world.

And change them in the process.

He came… for us too.

Those that live the ordinary lives. The average Joes. The ones that are just putting one foot in front of the other on most days.

The miracle of Christ’s birth is still as real today as it was over two thousand years ago.

Won’t you join me this season in experiencing the same awe that the shepherds had on that night?

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.  Luke 2:10 NIV

I’m Goin’ In!!!

I have been talked in to participating in Black Friday. Me and my posse’ are hitting the stores at midnight. We’re roaming the streets until the early morning hours. ‘Cause that’s how we roll.

1. Why I allowed myself to be talked into this…just proves that my mind is going.

2. I’m wearing my running shoes in case of any stampeding going on.

3. I hope I don’t get beaten down by some big mama hyped up on caffeine.

4. I’m a little nervous.

5. People get crazy over a good sale. If I’m in the way of someone getting a big flat screen TV…I could get shanked at the Wal-mart and left to meet my Maker laying on the floor at Wally World, forced to listen to canned Christmas music as my life ebbs away.

6. Why am I being so dark and morbid?

7. I’ll tell you why.

8. I’ll be out in the middle of the night…in the dark and cold….with 90 bazillion other people, strung out on over doses of turkey and mashed potatoes.

9. Hyped up on caffeine.

10. It’s a deadly combination.

If for some reason I don’t blog tomorrow…you’ll know why. I’m either sound asleep after my night life of shopping ’til I drop….or well, I’m dead. Run over by a mob of crazy Christmas shopping mamas-on-a-mission.
