I am a follower of Christ. As a Christian, I carry His name, this is no small thing. If I claim to follow Him, and I say I love people… then I would be wrong not to share His love with others.
Many people claim that Christianity is the same or similar to all other religions of the world. That is simply not true. True Christianity (and yes, I know that there are many among us that claim the name “christian” and yet have perverted it and turned it into something else entirely…and have hurt people in the name of Christ…that is wrong) claims that there is only one God and there are no other gods before Him. That God loved us so much that He chose to send His Son to the earth, to save people from themselves because all of us, each and every one, are sinners. Our sin keeps us from God. There are no amount of good things that we can do, to ever stand innocent before a just and holy God. That is why He, through His Son, gave us the FREE gift of salvation, not through works of our own. We could not and can not save ourselves. God made a bridge from Himself to us, through His Son, Jesus. Jesus took our place. He took our sin on Himself…He paid a very high price, for each of us. No other religion claims that God Himself came down to earth to live among men, to die, to be buried, to conquer death and live again (as witnessed by hundreds). All that is required, is to accept that gift of salvation through grace.
After Jesus’ resurrection, He was seen by many people. He talked with His disciples….and He said for them to wait. Wait to tell others the good news……
The world is dying; people are without the gospel; these men have the message of life; they have seen Jesus in the flesh and walked with him for days on end, both before and after his death and resurrection– and yet he tells them to wait. Why?
Christ knows the power and strongholds of the enemy. He knows what these men will soon face. He knows how much wisdom, discernment, and boldness they will need. And so he says, “No, even though you have the correct message, you will never accomplish the task I give you without the power (Greek: dunamis, from which we get the word dynamite) of the Holy Spirit, which is greater than yourselves. It will be his supernatural ability working in and through you. Don ‘t go anywhere until you have received that power.”
This is truly amazing. It is the opposite of what we hear in our day: “Just get a good theological education, and then go out to preach the message you’ve learned in the classroom.” But we are finding in churches all across the country that preaching alone does not cause conversions, does not result in baptisms, and does not expand the kingdom of God. Most churches are making no dent in the masses of unbelievers around them.” (pages 30-31 from Fresh Power by Jim Cymbala, pastor of the Brooklyn Tabernacle)
We need to make a difference. A real difference. As Christ followers we need to allow Him to work in us and through us to touch the world, our communities, families and friends…..because, let’s face it…..
This world is broken. Messed up. Mangled. People hurt. Death happens. Governments are corrupt. Families falter. Companies are downsizing and letting go. Dreams are lost. So many are left jaded and cynical. They ask questions, that beg for answers…..”Is this world all there is?” “Is there more, after this?” “What is my purpose here? “How can God love me, after all that I have done?”
And the answers are there, to eyes that will see and ears that will hear…..We need to speak up. Speak out. Lend a hand. Share the pain. Touch a soul. See the person.
No, this world isn’t all there is.
Josh 1:9: Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
John 16:33: “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
There is more after this brief life.
Rom 6:23: For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Your purpose is great.
Eph 2:8: For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—
Gal 5:22: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
God does love you. There is nothing that you can do that would make God love you more….and there is nothing you can do to make God love you, less.
Rom 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Rom 10:9: That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Heb 12:2: Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
