Be Joyful Always

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:28 NIV

I was thinking about this verse the other day. This verse says, be joyful always. Not only when life is easy. Not just when the health is good, the job is secure, and relationships are rock solid.

Pray continually. I don’t think this verse is talking about long, drawn out, stilted, memorized words. I believe it is more ongoing, flowing, general conversation with God. Personal and real.

Give thanks in all circumstances. Not easy, but necessary. Be thankful for God, who always has our best interest at heart. Who loves us so much more than we can comprehend, and can see the future when we can only see dark shadows of what might be.

Today I am thankful for:

* big, puffy, gray rain clouds

* a cool breeze

* being able to stay inside today

* long drives in the country

* a new driving permit for my daughter

* peanut butter ice cream

* beautiful farmland

* late evening sunshine

* crowing roosters

* missing my son

* golden opportunities

* the chance to use my knowledge to help others

* a young man so excited to have his friends attend his open house

* friendship

* a clean living room

* time spent with my husband

* a love that continues to grow, even through trials

* bare feet

* old tee shirts

* warm lamp light

* watching American Pickers

* catching up on reading

* God of the universe, and yet….still knows me.

* Grace

  1. Great thoughts on that verse…one I’m continually reminded of throughout my life. I love how you said that God always has our best interest at heart. If we really believe that, then we can “be joyful always, pray continually, and give thanks in all circumstances.”
