I just walked back in from the deck. I went to check on the dog and just stopped… stopped to drink in the scenery.
I propped my elbows up on the deck railing. The sky was an inky black, peppered with the glimmer of twinkling lights. The moon full or almost full, poured it’s white light down on the sleepy countryside. I heard my wind chime keeping time with the flow of the air. The winter weeds in the field out back, bending to the night time tune. I heard the Canadian geese honking loudly in the otherwise quietness of the night. For that one, all too brief, moment I felt such peace. I was standing there, by myself, on the deck, in the dark, wearing my old jeans, a thermal shirt, and in my stocking feet.
I thought to myself, “this is beautiful”. I felt very blessed. I AM very blessed.
God spoke to me in this quiet…… I met with Him in that moment.
The words of the hymn, How Great Thou Art, came to my lips, as I whispered the song to my God who created this most awesome display. The God who provided this moment for me.
How Great Thou Art Hymn
Lord my God! When I in awesome wonder
Consider all the works thy hand hath made,
I see the stars, I hear the mighty thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed;
Refrain:
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
When through the woods and forest glades I wander
and hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees;
when I look down from lofty mountain grandeur,
and hear the brook, and feel he gentle breeze;
Refrain
And when I think that God his son not sparing,
Sent him to die – I scarce can take it in,
That on the cross my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin:
Refrain
When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And take me home- what joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow in humble adoration
And there proclaim, my God, how great thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
