It Changes Us

A panorama of a shelf cloud over the City of W...

Trouble happens. Trials are difficult. Problems persist.

I have heard it said, and I know it to be true…

as individuals we are at one of three places in life.

We either are getting ready to go into a trial. We are smack dab in the middle of a trial, or have just gotten out of a trial.

Wouldn’t you agree? I can only speak for myself and the experiences I’ve been through, but this statement holds true for me.

It’s the trials, much like the storms that ripped through the country this week, that can be devastating.

But, it is also those same trials and storms of life that allow us to see grace for what it truly is.

And it changes us.

Survival after one’s world crumbles, perspective changes.

There is a realization of what is truly important. What is real. What is necessary.

For many people, the questions are asked, “What is the purpose of this? Why do I have to go through this? How did I end up here? Where will I go from here?”

Troubles in life are not easy. I would be a fool and a liar to say they were. They never are.

And yet, Christ tells us,  “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”  (And Paul says) Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV

Christ’s power.

The strength to make it through. To not give up. Not give in. To stand tall.

To not be broken forever.

To know hope, and most importantly to know Him.

And to realize He is enough.

Today, I am thankful for:

* a new day

* a chance to begin again

* having will power

* a new opportunity

* being able to use the talents God gave me

* good laughter

* silly smiles

* making it through the storms this week

* everyone in my family is safe

* time to rest

* time to reevaluate

* knowing that through all of life’s trials, Christ is enough.
